I’m biodegradable, and pro-donation
Wednesday, 10 September, 2008
While discussing Simpson’s Forensic Medicine, I’d love it if everyone could see the pictures of the decomposition process.
Though I work for a tissue recovery agency, I was a little ambivalent about tissue donation. Literally giving yourself, it seems to be the greatest gift anyone can ever give, but the recovery process is not for the faint of heart.
I’ve decided that post-mortem decomposition is far worse. If that’s what will happen to my skin, I’ll gladly donate it. Please, take my skin, take my tissues, use whatever you can. Forensic Medicine’s discussion of the “explosion” of the abdominal cavity and picture of skin “marbling” as bacterial growth spreads through the venous system have made me quite pro-donation.
Thanks, Simpson. Good lesson.
